Trikitixa: the joy of Erromerias

The trikitixa, a small diatonic accordion usually accompanied by a tambourine, is one of the most characteristic instruments of Basque folk music. Its cheerful, fast-paced and vibrant sound is deeply associated with festivities and movement.

It is the soul of the Erromerias and folk dances, where it sets the rhythm for the fandango, the arin-arin and other traditional dances. Its infectious energy invites people to join in, so its presence automatically brings to mind celebrations and social events.
