Altzo's Square
The modern building next to the town hall houses the Giant’s Interpretation Centre. Through a viewfinder on the wall, you can see a life-size sculpturel, the work of the artist Iñaki Moyua, in addition to the replicas of several objects of his time.
Ipintza Haundi Farmhouse
Migel Joakin Eleizegi was born in 1818 in this farm in the neighborhood of Altzo Abajo. On the outside there is a sculpture carved by Juanito Lope. The size of one of the leather shoes stands out, size 63! You can try to put your foot in and compare the difference.
The route
The route begins in Altzo square and goes down to the Altzo Azpi neighborhood.
Altzo Azpi
It is a separate neighborhood from the center of Altzo and is closer to neighboring Alegia. It still preserves an old mill that was active until 1967, and was restored at the beginning of this century.
The marks of the San Salvador church
In Altzo Azpi is also located the small hermitage of San Salvador. The rector measured the giant’s stature when he returned from his travels, chiseling the stripes on the wall. The marks on the stone still follow. In the cemetery next door they found the bones of the giant in the summer of 2020.
Santa Barbara chapel and sculpture
Once back to Altzo Muino, the next stop is at Santa Barbara chapel, from the seventeenth century. It is believed to have been the first church in Altzo. In front there is another stone sculpture, made by Tomás Ugartemendia.
