Gastronomic products, around the bean

The sack of Tolosa beans is one of the most popular products with visitors. Also its sacraments (side dishes): a jar of chilli peppers in vinegar, or chistorras of all kinds, vegetable black pudding and vacuum-packed mondejos. There are more and more products derived from these foods, and the variety is very wide. Discover them through their flavour!

As well as having several wineries and cider makers that produce both txakoli wine and cider, there are a multitude of shops where you can find these typical Basque products.

Desserts: typical sweets, cheeses and dairy products

Tiles and Cigarettes from Tolosa are the most typical ones, as well as Gorrotxas formerly called xaxus. Rafa Gorrotxategi also makes handmade chocolates and nougats mixing ingredients that you wouldn’t even imagine.

There is also a wide variety of dairy products: fresh cheeses, sheep’s, goat’s and cow’s milk cheeses, pastas, yoghurts, creams, ice creams…

Pelota and Basque rural sports

Basque rural sports are one of its hallmarks, with Basque pelota and stone-lifting as its greatest examples. You can take away as souvenirs stones weighing 300 kilos (not in weight, but in miniature), balls to play on the fronton or pelotaris’ T-shirts.

Traditional costumes and fashion

In Tolosa there is a sustainable clothing brand, very successful among the local youth, which bases its designs on the streets of the town. Discover also the traditional costumes: from the colourful carnival chilabas to the Basque costumes, which are usually worn at Christmas, special fairs or other festivities such as Santa Águeda. There are all kinds of them!
