Belauntza
Concert
Xabier Amuriza and Agus Barandiaran's "85 Kopla" concert at Belauntza Church at 6:30 PM. Tickets available at the Belauntza Inn.
Music and songs that are not just lyrics, but snapshots of the moment and of life.
Amuriza's grandmother used to hold weekly pilgrimages in front of the farmhouse. With a tambourine in her hands and her voice, she would get her neighbors dancing. It wasn't just a celebration; it was a way of life, because she lived off the food and drinks she sold at the pilgrimage. Amuriza comes from that world; he grew up with these pilgrimages and has dedicated his life to researching and studying the stories behind those songs… they weren't just lyrics, they were snapshots, images of the moment: the snow on the mountain, the neighborhood donkey, the farm boy… eleven memories. Xabier Amuriza will revisit his life through the songs he has collected and created over the past few decades.
Amuriza will focus on the coplas (traditional Spanish songs) he has collected and created over the last few decades, and, using this as a starting point, will review his artistic career. He won't be alone; in this event, he will combine music and coplas with his friend Barandiaran, and together they will analyze the meaning and background of the 85 coplas.
Tickets must be purchased in advance at the Ostatu in Belauntza.
