Amezketa Cultural and Natural Heritage Interpretation Center

The Amezketarras have always lived in close contact with the environment. They have a rich natural and cultural heritage and in this space they have wanted to collect information about Aralar, the Arritzaga glacier valley, the Zazpiturri spring, the argizaiolas or Fernando Amezketarra.

The mill

The Ieraregibizkar mill appears on the list of goods and elements cataloged in the Municipal Subsidiary Regulations for the Basic Protection Regime, as well as on the list of possible level D archaeological zones and elements. This hydraulic installation is classified as industrial heritage.

Who was Pello Zabala?

Pello Zabala Bengoetxea was born in Amezketa in 1943. But he spent his life as a Franciscan friar in the Arantzazu sanctuary. He was especially known for the weather forecasts he made taking into account the storms on the radio.

He was a lover of Basque, of music and a person who knew how to read nature. Amezketa wanted to pay tribute to him by naming this space created after him to tell the legacy of his hometown, Amezketa.

Around the mill, there is an area with tables, to be able to enjoy the enchanting environment with the sound of the river water that runs down next to the mill.
