Qué ver en Elduain

Elduain is a living museum of rural architecture and recovered history. Its most iconic building is the Sorregieta Farmhouse, known for being the ancestral home of Queen Máxima of the Netherlands. The religious heritage is centered around the Church of Santa Catalina, while in the surroundings of the village you can find six restored lime kilns, a mill rescued from the undergrowth, and the old laundry house, symbols of the valley's industrious past.

Santa Catalina church

Built mostly in the 16th century, with a sole nave covered with groin vaults, exterior butresses and flat front. With Gothic arcade, while the Romance style main altarpiece was made in 1603 by Juan de Berroeta.

Sorregieta farmhouse

Located next to the road, from the 16th century, is one of the most significant buildings in the village. The facade is made of bricks and wooden scheme. The ancestor of the Dutch Queen Maxima Zorreguieta lived here before they emigrated to Argentina.

More farmhouses

Also worth mentioning Ezpeleta and Txapitale farmhouses, with semicircular arches. Arretxe, Kapanenea, Etxeberri, Goikoetxea, Intzenea, Olondo Txiki or Iriarte farmhouses have semicircular patio doors.

Water fountains, limestone quaries and a mill

Elduain is currently working hard on a long and ardous restoration process of its historial heritage. Recently up to 6 limestone quaries have been restored in the surroundings, and an old mill has been discovered in the weeds, which has since been rebuilt. The former washing place , located on the lower part of the village, has also strong symbolism.
