Berastegi is known for the extention of its fields. There are different theories that explain the origin of the name come from Beratz (field) -tegi (house). Both the historical heritage and natural surroundings are key points, where the culture of cheese production is deeply rooted.

Berastegi stands out for its elegant town center, where the baroque Town Hall and its small fronton in the porticoes are highlights. The Church of San Martín de Tours is a mandatory stop to admire its 13th-century portico and the imposing Jauregi Tower House that guards it. In the surroundings, nature surprises visitors with the stunning lake of Lindozulo and a network of three hermitages (San Sebastián, San Antón, and San Lorenzo) that serve as privileged viewpoints over the valley.
San Martin de Tours church
Gothic style, with a 13th century Roman style arcade. The Reinassance altarpiece and organ are also very unique. On the back side there’s Berastegi or Jauregi tower.
Three chapels
San Sebastian chapel, from the 14th century, guards Berastegi from the top of a hill with great views. Very close to it, in the road, San Anton chapel is located, built in 1675. And going up, in the middle of the forest, San Lorenzo chapel, with also beautiful views.
Town Hall
One of Berastegi’s iconic heritage sites. Built in 1734, is a Barroque style building made in stone and wood. Main points are the coat of arms and the small fronton court on the portico.
Lindozulo, a temporary lake
On Aintzerga neighbourhood, halfway to Leitza (Navarre), a sporadic pool appears on very rainy days and disappears when it stops. A whim of nature worth visiting. You may be lucky!
Urto picnic area
Recreational area with grills at the end of Plazaola green way, on the border with Navarre. In summer many families and groups of friends visit it for a refreshing bath in the river.
Natural beauty on the Leitzaran river basin
Peace and silence and the two traits that best describe Leitzaran valley. From Berastegi you can access this incredibly beautiful area where crystal rivers and unusual animals and plants win everyone’s hearts.
