Beautiful views over the Oria

Aduna is located on a hill on the left bank of Oria river. Traditionally it has been a land of farmhouses and forests, mainly with apple trees and beech, an image from past times that is kept nowadays.

Qué ver en Aduna

Aduna surprises visitors with its balance between rural tradition and history. Its village center, featuring the Church of the Assumption and classical Basque architecture, invites a peaceful stroll that extends towards Mount Belkoain. Here, prehistoric dolmens coexist with remnants of the Civil War, offering a unique journey through history.

Nuestra Señora de la Asuncion church

From the 16th century, with an older Gothic façade, with an arch pointed in archivolt and a rustic wooden cover on the atrium . The tower, from the early 20th century, has a pointed spire, a quite rare style found in Gipuzkoa.

Square

Apart from the church, there are other buildings in the square with typical Basque architecture features: the town hall building, Torre farmhouse, the priest’s house or Uztartza palace. There’s also a lovely covered fronton court. Nearby there’s a water park where children play in hot summer days.

Apakintza farmhouse and stone lifting

Located next to the industrial park, it’s a tribute to one of the most iconic Basque rural sports, stone lifting. Belongs to former sportsman Gorostidi, nowadays an artisan, who owns a variety of stone sculptures related to the sport.

Belkoain mountain and its history

Part of the Andatza massif, between Andoain and Aduna, it has two small peaks with plenty of history. Between both there’s a dolmen which brings us to prehistoric times. We can also find remains of the Spanish Civil War: a trench, Sasoeta, where Basque soldiers fought Francoist troops after the fall of Tolosa. Halfway, in the middle of the forest, Basopeta recreational area is located.

Santa Cruz chapel

Next to the road, just 400m from the town centre. It waas first mentioned in 1652. With a wooden Corinthian altarpiece and a crucifix in the middle. On the back side we can find the rectory. In the past a procession would take place on St. Lazarus day, which would make the distance from the church to the chapel.
